Members will be aware that following the recent meetings between the EFO and FORE it was agreed that the EFO would lead the development work on preparing a scope of practice document for osteopathy in Europe.
A working group was established under the Chairmanship of Ton Kouwenberg from the Netherlands with representatives from Spain, Ireland, UK, Sweden, France, Italy, Finland and Belgium (8 countries in total)
A series of meting have taken place with the most recent occurring on Monday October 26 in Amsterdam to review progress to date.
The steering group has determined that the document should be structured in chapters which will cover the following headings
Introduction (what the document is and what it seeks to achieve)
Osteopathic history (to give context)
Osteopathic concepts now and the history of the concepts (some might refer to this as osteopathic principles and philosophies)
Osteopathic practice (what osteopaths do and how they do it)
The steering group is also discussing whether the document should include a chapter concerning osteopathic competencies but has decided that it would be useful to get a view from the EFO and FORE members before pursuing this formally. We expect to write to you again within the next few weeks concerning this issue.
The steering group is scheduled to meet again on December 7 in Amsterdam and will produce a final document for discussion by the end of January 2010. Provided this schedule is achieved we hope to include this on the agenda for our General assembly in Brussels.
