COMMUNICATION
Already several years ago the members of the Board of Directors and the professional body of Sutherland College of Osteopathic Medicine (SCOM), officially declared they were in favour of Osteopathic Medicine being taught as part of the curriculum within a university structure.
Several Scom teachers have actively participated in the setting up of the university teaching of osteopathy within the ULB campus (Master in Osteopathy - six year full time course). The programme takes place at ISM in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine.
This advance in the training of osteopaths is a priority in the recognition of it's profession.It will also definitively guarantee the competence of future graduates.
Logically, it will appear obvious that private colleges will ultimately need to progressively terminate their training in order to allow university level teaching.
The Board of Directors of Sutherland College of Osteopathic Medicine has, during an extraordinary meeting on 27 February 2010, decided to respect its commitment (article 5 of the Charter) and to terminate its osteopathic training (however those courses presently taking place will naturally complete their training).
Therefore, with effect from 2010, there will be no new academic entrants.
SCOM will continue to promote the ULB training.
The Board of Directors would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students which Scom have trained since 1994, all it's teachers and everyone who, in one way or another have shown their interest and support.
The future of the College will be orientated towards the organisation of post-graduate seminars open to all professional osteopaths. These seminars will be organised around various themes which concern the practice of osteopathy, and will always respect the criteria which has made the reputation of Sutherland College :

Il y a de nombreuses années déjà que les membres du Conseil de direction et du corps
professoral du Sutherland College of Osteopathic Medicine (SCOM) se sont officiellement
déclarés favorables à l’ouverture d’un enseignement de l’Ostéopathie dans le cadre
d’une structure universitaire.
Plusieurs enseignants du Scom ont activement participé à la mise en place de la
formation universitaire en ostéopathie sur le campus de l’ULB (Master complémentaire
en ostéopathie ‐ six années d’études à temps complet). Ce cursus se fait à l’ISM en
collaboration avec la Faculté de médecine.
Cette évolution de la formation des ostéopathes est une priorité pour la reconnaissance
de la profession. Elle doit également permettre de garantir de manière définitive la
compétence des futurs diplômés.
Dans cette logique, il paraît évident que les collèges privés doivent progressivement
terminer leur enseignement pour laisser la place à l’enseignement de niveau
universitaire.
L’Assemblée Générale du Sutherland College of Osteopathic Medicine a donc décidé, lors
de sa réunion extraordinaire du 27 février 2010, de respecter ses engagements (article 5
de la Charte) et de fermer définitivement sa formation à l’Ostéopathie (les promotions
actuellement en cours termineront, bien évidemment, leur formation)
A partir de 2010, il n’y aura donc plus de nouvelle rentrée académique.
Le SCOM continuera à faire la promotion de l’enseignement à l’ULB.
Le Conseil de direction veut profiter de ce courrier pour remercier tous les étudiants
que le Scom a formés depuis 1994, tous ses enseignants et toutes les personnes qui,
d’une manière ou d’une autre, ont manifesté leur intérêt ou leur soutien.
L’avenir du Collège sera orienté vers l’organisation de séminaires post‐gradués ouverts
à tous les ostéopathes professionnels. Ces séminaires seront organisés autour de
différents thèmes qui peuvent concerner la pratique de l’ostéopathie et respecteront
toujours les critères qui ont fait la réputation du Collège Sutherland :
Rigueur et Efficacité.
